This workshop offers early career researchers in philosophy of mind and cognitive science an opportunity for in-depth discussion and feedback on their work. Each accepted speaker will be paired with another early career researcher working on a connected topic. The paired speakers will receive each other’s papers in advance and prepare a detailed commentary. Each paper will then get 1 hour: 30 minutes for the speaker’s talk, 10 minutes for the paired speaker’s commentary, and 20 minutes for discussion.
We invite papers in philosophy of mind and cognitive science, broadly understood. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Epistemology of perception
- Mental representations
- Bodily awareness and sensations
- Social cognition and joint action
- The problem of consciousness
- Naturalization of intentionality
- Animal cognition and comparative psychology
- Philosophy of psychiatry and psychopathology
- Philosophy of AI
We welcome submissions from members of minorities and underprivileged groups.
Eligibility: Submissions are invited from PhD students or researchers who received their PhD less than 2 years before the submission deadline.
Submission instructions: Abstracts ready for blind review (1000 words) with a separate cover sheet (listing name, contact information, institutional affiliation, and date of PhD conferral or expected conferral) should be submitted to bochumgradconf@gmail.com by April 30th, 2022. Spring School on Situated Cognition (SCSS) 2022:
Situated Cognition: Applications, Prospects and Limits
CFP: 20th of January 2022
Abstract
Our spring school brings together leading researchers in the field of the situated mind. We aim to exchange the latest advancements and ideas on situated cognition and show how these concepts also apply in the real world to tackle diverse problems. For this goal, interdisciplinary researchers from all ends of the spectrum are invited, like philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, animal research, or artificial systems. Highly promising doctoral students and early postdoctoral researchers from European or international universities and research institutions are cordially invited to apply for a talk or poster presentation. We will ensure an open and constructive setting to foster networking, intensive discussion, and exciting exchange with leading experts and fellow students of this research area.
Talks and Poster Presentations
Tuition is free, thanks to the DFG-Graduiertenkolleg/Research Training Group “Situated Cognition” located at the Ruhr University Bochum and University of Osnabrück.
We invite applications from PhD students and post-doctoral researchers for poster presentations and a few contributing talks. Accepted presenters who do not have their own institutional funding will receive support: 250 Euros for those based in Europe and 350 Euro for non-EU PhD-students or postdocs. This support will be limited to max. 20 applicants (to be decided after acceptance).
